Its was another great Friday afternoon at Leo Aguilar Memorial Stadium. It had rained a little but
the field was still in good condition. There was clearly some people nervous about the game.
After all, we were up against the Cards who have been very competitive in 5A over the years.
The visitors side was packed and the home side was also. This was a great feeling.
The Falcons received the kick first and had a very impressinve 14 play, 80 yard drive the mixed
the run and pass to perfection. The Cards defense walked off the field and the Cards Fans were
silent.
The Cards got the kickoff and had a nice drive of their own for a score. 7-7 and the end of the
first quarter. Then both teams scored again on good ball movement making it 14-14 at the half.
The Cards received the ball to start the second half when they fumbled on the return giving it to
the Falcons on the 35. A few plays later the Falcons scored on a nice run by V. Martinez to make
it 21-14 in favor of the Falcons. Toward the end of the 3rd quarter the Cards scored again to
make it 21-21 to start the 4th. A turnover on the next offensive series for the Falcons(fumble )
gave the ball to the Cards inside the Falcons 30yrd line. The rest is history.
Although this game was lost. The game was a successful step in the Falcon Football program.
This loss is NOTHING to hang our head over. It was a great game.
What worked: Play calling. A very nice mix of pass and run kept the Cards off balance.
What worked: Passing. Kretz looked good in the pocket and the routes were clean and sharp.
Kretz again passed to 7 differrent receivers for 257 yards.
What worked: Catching. The Falcon receivers were doing a good job catching the ball. Including
that crucial pass the was called incomplete after he had possession and dropped when the ground
forced it loose.
What worked: With the exception of one area of the defense. The defense played as well as they
played all year. The Cards were forced to punt a few times. Nice job.
Fine Tuning: There were two instances that stand out. No need to get into it.
Fine Tuning: For the fans that were leaving with 6 min left in the game. SHAME ON YOU!! I
took pictures of them leaving. Look at the PICS 3 link up on top. Instead of recognizing the
great efforts of our team, they choose to leave to beat the traffic. Next time, dont even show up!!
